Evidence and practical approaches for treating land as critical infrastructure, restoring ecosystem functions and helping production systems recover.
Healthy land is the foundation of food production, water regulation, biodiversity, climate resilience and rural economies. When soils lose organic matter, vegetation cover declines or erosion accelerates, the effects extend well beyond a single farm. Productivity falls, water systems become less reliable, ecosystems weaken and households face greater risk.
This collection brings together CGIAR research on multifunctional landscapes, soil and land-health assessment, agroecology, forest and landscape restoration, and farmer-led regeneration. It combines the case for restoration with methods for deciding where to act, monitoring whether interventions work and connecting ecological recovery with food security and livelihoods.
